Detour 156 Street

From Fourth and King
there are many routes to 156 Second Street

Left on Fourth, right on Howard
and you see the amusement park
belly dance, Bengal magic,
entertaining endlessly

Crosswalks bustling, traffic galore
attentive guards in shining uniforms,
ushering you in to look up at the stage.

The other route goes via Brannan
Across the loaded delivery vans
you find the clanging lathes,
and sizzling presses,
incessantly running,
producing the ducts that cool your homes, offices, abodes

There on the road
you see him with his collar green
shirt smeared in grease, stained
a foreign familiar face, smiling.

This is a less frequented route
with a sign post, now fading
'Detour: 156 Second Street'.
