Jailed Bird

I look up hungrily at the bars
That allow the single ray of sun
And dream of the wide blue sky
Birds flying carefree and gay
Against the backdrop of the clouds
The sea extending to the horizon
Where the waves meet the clouds
In an ecstasy of joy
Smiling up to the shining sun
Expressing their happiness.

Will I ever be able
To be a part of that free spirit
That engulfs this wide world
-The gift of Mother Nature
To all those who love her.

Maybe one day, I shall
Fly along with the wind
Whistling at the beauty around me
One day, I too shall inhale
All the blossoms of the spring
One day, I too shall dance
In the rains that wet roses
One day, I too shall taste
The nectar of freedom...

Some day, I shall roam the skies
Like an escaped balloon
So free in eternal space
Mounting the steps to the heaven.
I shall live a life worth living
Even though it may just be
A few moments of a free life
And die a death worth dying
- I shall die a free soul
Whence death would free me forever.
