Birth

I remember
the deep color of waves around me,
the lightness of air, the round tied up balloon.
once one has slept for so long what is left?
Once one has been captured

Without a part left over,
not a finger, not a toe, and full,
full in flesh, in the moons shadow, the face
that waits for the wakening of dawn
to hide among others.

The crowd so large and no one yet here.
I swim beside still shadows
deeper, falling towards a hole
like a star that squeezes through the black,
sounds echo from a nearby cliff

that filter through the darkness of the room,
the creaking in her small, wooden door
under the cramped storage of yesterday.
Is there no great relief, only suffering?
Does the sea
Remember the fish in it?

Waves of time only sharp in the moment.
The colors of the water leak, the door sweats,
the grown ups rush into circles.
the moon fades, it is a blooming sun.
The crying begins.
