Games for Two

Waves of disbelief
render thoughts like empty shells
retreating over
how much time we need to separate
until the language
fades like bird chatter

And there are no more trees to fell
to pile papers into court
while the fruit of us
turns to stringy fibers
pits and seed for the landfill

Would you know
how much time we need to separate
or the right words to end this thing?
you're more articulate than me
I'd just mispronounce the names

I never kept quiet in my mind
waiting inside this old door frame
perhaps a different chair today
I'll grow into a way of life

But in the meantime, my darling
shall we play a game?
