The Waiting Pilgrim

Wandering footprints held by sands
Restive echoes held captive by dunes,
Is it the certainty of destination?
Or just a milestone along the path...
The finality or just a pause?

As the shadows creep forwards
Enveloping footprints, smothering echoes
Caravans dispersed, guides dissolved
Prayers abducted, hymns waylaid
Propelled by thoughts
Imprisoned by dreams,
Here the pilgrim waits
For milestones to sleep...

Turnings and crossroads to retire
And the dark to swallow the shadows
For him the dark had promised
Luminescence of rising sun
Borrowed from the glow of your eyes.

Defying certainties,
Pilgrim waits for the path to leave
For he also has to reach
Beyond destinations...
Crossing milestones,
Carrying his collection of footprints.
