The dark highway curves sinuously
Sinking here and rising there
Mesmerizing you with its serpentine habit
Ready to sink its fangs into you, if you're unwary.

As you speed into the night
You will see carrier trucks turned turtle
Their engines still running
Their headlights tracking the stars.

You are advised by the wise
Never to stop at unauthorized roadblocks,
Or help anyone in distress but
Pray for everyone's safety and good health.

You might wonder why we
Just don't make good roads
Or provide better safety for traffic
Until your head aches.

You soon realize that
It's better to strictly follow
The poisonous trail and
Be ready for the unexpected.

You must not relax
Or let your car lurch into potholes,
For what's the point to get bitten
And then look for an antidote.
