Vastu
Questions and Answers :
"Vastu" and our Life Style

Regret and Apology :
I have been under deep anguish at my perforce absence in the onerous task of attending to this subject. It went smoothly well until article no. 6. Then came the debacle in the communication network here for five weeks. Unforeseen handicaps followed which, despite my desperate efforts, could not be surmounted earlier. I return hereby with an assurance of continuing to serve devotedly as was initially planned.

Feedback :

Dwelling on theoretical treatment alone starts getting abstruse after some length of time. A rapport with the readers goes a long way in making the subject lively and purposeful. To this end, welcome as it was to be, several anxious enquiries and valuable suggestions poured in. It is a pity that these esteemed partners have had to wait indefinitely for response. Ending this suspense deserves priority. Hence, I am attending to their letters in this article. The resulting information would be of use and interest to all others also.

Letter dated June 7, 2000 : "Can I have Vastu consultation from you ?"

Answer : Yes.

Letter dated June 17, 2000 :  "We are planning to buy a flat in a housing scheme. The flat has good daylight and proper ventilation. It has balconies on both the east and west sides. Should I take into account the location of the whole housing complex or the individual flat. It is said that the house/flat should not be south facing. Is it OK if their is proper daylight ?"

Answer : (1) Balconies on the east are always welcome. On the west the ventilation may be OK but sustained exposure to sunlight from the west vent is positively baneful and the balcony there serves no useful purpose.  (2) If you have the choice, the location of the housing complex must be taken into account. The quantum of open spaces around, the vicinity, such as water body, slope of terrain, drainage, transformer etc. all have profound bearing on the well being of the residents. The initial articles have already covered the subject in great detail. But where you do not have the choice, the alternative is to have a compromise by choosing a flat where at least the kitchen, master bedroom, toilet, balcony etc. are placed correctly.  (3) As regard "south facing" a letter was received earlier. The answer thereof has been fully covered in article no. 6.  (4) Proper daylight is, no doubt, a good amenity but, in itself, is not a remedy to "OK" all faults.

Letter dated June 24, 2000 : "I have some problems in my business of furniture making. Its main entrance is from west. Is it possible to help me please ? "

Answer : It is definitely possible to help you despite the entrance being at west. But, then, more information is required, say, a diagram showing the relationship of the premises with the vicinity as also the basic details of the interior, such as the location of the entrance, the seat of the owner of the business, space allocated to circulation, electricity main board, water storage etc. Since influences operating in business premises are carried into the household and vice versa, a copy of the plan of the residence may also please be attached.

Another Letter dated June 24, 2000 : "Why don't you include a section on the traditional trees of India. Which trees should be planted in which direction ? We know so little about traditional trees like Bel. With rapid urbanization we are forgetting these trees."

Answer: With rapid urbanization, little room is left for planting trees like Bel in homes. Yet, in an earlier article due reference has been made as to the choice of plants and trees. Dwelling more than this falls in the realm of a thesis and not in such articles where the purpose is to provide an awareness related to the significance and relevance of Vastu. All the same, your view is commendable and deserves reference to an excellent treatise, 'Beautiful Gardens' written by M.S. Randhawa, a scientist administrator and naturalist. The work is evocative of the poetry of verdant nature. There is actually a chapter on 'Forgotten Flowers' as also others on Ornamental,
Flowering, Foliage, Shady, Unusual and Fragrant trees.

Letter dated June 28, 2000 : "I would like to know the purpose of your setting up this website."

Seemingly, it is for the editor to answer this question.
