Dr. Prasenjit Maiti

Dr Prasenjit Maiti [1971-]<pmaiti@vsnl.com> is a political sociologist. He joined the Development Sector in 2003 after teaching and researching at the MA & M.Phil Levels of the University of Burdwan [1995-2002] as Lecturer in Political Science. Dr Maiti was associated with the Asian Development Bank-funded Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project as NGO Representative and Member of the Resettlement Plan Implementation Working Group [2003-04].

Dr Maiti earlier worked at the Council for Development Studies as Research Associate and also served as Consultant to the Shelter Promotion Council [2003]. He edited a volume on the National Green Corps Program sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests [Government of India] commissioned by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board [2004] and worked briefly for ActionAid on a Right to Information Project [2005]. He served as Consultant to the Consumer Unity & Trust Society on a Perception Assessment Study focused on livelihoods in the agriculture and textile sectors [2005]. He also served as Evaluation Consultant for The Energy & Resources Institute [2005]. He is presently employed by Consulting Engineering Services [India] Pvt Ltd as Sociologist.

Dr Maiti was on secondment as Doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Federalism, University of Fribourg while teaching at the University of Burdwan [1999]. He taught Tourism Administration at Burdwan University and served as Resource Person for Distance Education Programs and Teachers' Training Courses sponsored by the University Grants Commission. He served as Academic Counsellor for the Netaji Subhas Open University. Prasenjit Maiti also worked briefly as Senior Sub-Editor for The Telegraph. He was the Director of North Africa, Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent on the Inaugural Technical Committee of Fed-Net, a website hosted by Forum of Federations: An International Network on Federalism [Ottawa, Ontario, Canada].

Dr Maiti's maiden publication based on his doctoral thesis developed from a German Research Council project under the auspices of the Department of Political Science at the South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg. He was invited to the International Conference on Federalism 2002 organized by the Swiss Government at the University of St Gallen. Prasenjit Maiti served as Reviewer [2001] for Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies & Management [College of Education, Division of Criminal Justice, University of Cincinnati]. He is also Referee for Environment & Development Economics [University of York, Heslington, York] published by the Cambridge University Press and Crime Prevention & Community Safety [Perpetuity Press, Leicester] as well as Reviewer for Globalization and Health.

Dr Maiti holds First Class Graduate and Postgraduate Degrees in Political Science from Presidency College, University of Calcutta and Jawaharlal Nehru University [Centre for Political Studies, School of Social Sciences] respectively. He received the National Merit Scholarship of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Prasenjit Maiti is Life Member of the Indian Political Science Association, West Bengal Political Science Association, Council for Political Studies and Indian Institute of Public Administration. He coordinated the Urban Development Debates series published by Atlantic while his second book [Development Discourses] was published in 2005.
