Each one of us in India stand on a square-foot of land that is sacred, that is 'saare jahaan se achha...' and 'where the mind is without fear...', we see a patch of sky that flutters the tricolour and experience a time that is truly very ancient. We inherit a great civilisation and posess a great heritage. We carry a great responsibility to take this country forward, clinse the society off the evils of illiteracy, poverty, blind faiths, social customs and other negative aspects that have crept into our lives due to greed, lust for power and ignorance. These appear to be a tall order, but not really so. The darkness of the night however thick vanishes with the first rays of the sun.
Likewise if we can tighten up our belt, start gaining courage to tell the truth and do not allow the roots of corruption grow even a millimeter, we shall achieve all that we can dream of. Let us pass on a clean society to our next generation.
Our previous generation spearheaded by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and later by Gandhi and ably supported by great men and women like Pandi Nehru, Sardar Patel, Muhammad Jinah, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, Annie Besant, Babu Rajendra Prasad, Subash Bose, C R Das, Lalla Lajpat Rai, Bipin Behari Pal, Gopabandhu Das, Abdul Kalam Azad, Rajaji, Jaya Prakash Narain, Jag Jeevan Ram, Morarjee desai, Lal Bahadur Sashtry, Ambedkar, K M Munshi, Kriplani, Rama Manohar Lohia, Sarojini Naidu, and myriad more from every walk of life brought to an end the foreign rule and put India on a pedestal among the nations.
Two to three decades starting from 1915 was a glorious period in the history of India. We had excellent leaders, great poets and writers, great thinkers, jurists and social workers. There were great sportsmen and women too. The atomsphere was surcharged with patriotism. There were dedicated people who were ever ready to sacrifice for the good of the society and the nation. We had our freedom and became a republic too. we have a very well written constitution documented by Ambedkar, a great scholar.
Today we celebrate our 63rd Republic day, thanks to the sacrifices and noble works of thousands of freedom fighters who spent their days in jails or were in exile. It is a day to express our gratitude to all our warriors, and take oath to serve for the benefit of our nation.
It is a great proud moment to greet our country men, and all our writers to take our philosophy and heritage forward by their writings!!
