The Cup that Does Not Cheer!
'So India won' my friend said with quiet relish.
'When, where?' I asked quizzically.
'T-20 World Championship, you fool. India beat South Africa by just one run, in a nail biting finish'.
'Oh yes,' I said.
'I clean forgot. But India is out of the championship. So, actually they lost!'.
'You should look at victory as it is. What matters if they don't win the T- 20. As it is, it reminds me of T-SHIRTS'.
'T shirts or no T shirts, we have lost'.
'But we have won the match' my friend insisted.
'It will add to another win'.
'However, we have lost !' I persisted.
'We have won, but we have lost. What a sad paradox'. This being a little incontrovertible, my friend lapsed into a gloom.
'But imagining beating South Africa'.
'Yes' I said sarcastically, 'to finally lose!'.
'Why are you beating around the bush?' my friend asked.
'I am not. It was Indian cricket team which did that. And now they are out of the reckoning'.
'My dear friend. A victory is a victory. Records will show that India won the match'.
I remained silent.
'Yes' I said coming to a compromise.
'India, won and lost'.
'All is not lost' my friend reminded me. '
'The T-20 is' I remarked.
'The cup that does not cheer' was my reply!
