An endless, ever surging, ocean like multitude of humanity had enclosed both of us till we met. It was just like two waves emerging from the ocean and surging forth to meet and lose themselves on the sands. But then we had stepped aside to talk. It had just happened and yet there was something peculiar about our meeting. It was not like any other event to be marked on a calendar by people near and far from us. Can you recall when was it that we met and also whether there were any of our meetings prior to this one? I had reasons to believe that at some earlier point in time we must have met somewhere along these sands how else was it possible that out of the teeming millions only you could have stepped aside to talk with me today?
As soon as we stepped aside an unending crowd of footprints, now meeting and then separating, welcomed us on the sands. This made me realize that we were witnessing just another manifestation of an ever-existing relationship between just the two of us. Waves emerging forth and disappearing, footprints meeting and departing, were all entombed like memory in those golden grains that surrounded our beings. Memory is the womb where all existence nestles and gets manifest in due course of time. We know that we are because we knew that we were!
Waves emerged incessantly from the fathomless ocean and in an ecstatic frenzy rushed forth towards the sands. Some of them seemed to break in to froth and tiny droplets against the rocks and we could see rainbows smilingly emerging out of those droplets against the rocks. Some of them managed to reach the sands and in the embrace of the golden grains did they find their destination? In their carvings on the sands we traced the imprinted throbbing that lay ensconced in the ocean's bosom. Those innumerable grains surrounded the ocean and its incessant roar, the waves and their intoxicating ecstasy, the breeze and its undulating cadence. The sands contained the ocean that contained the waves and the waves sailed across the horizon in the lap of the breeze.
An all-encompassing multitude contained our solitude that we shared with the waves just as we shared our thoughts with those of the breeze that sang paeans to the seafarers and to the majestic ecstasy of the waves. All that we saw unfolding on those sands was just a manifestation of an eternal continuum. There is never a point in time that we are not together. The two of us, and thus in a similar manner all of us, keep on emerging like waves from the ocean to lose ourselves amidst those all embracing, all pervading sands which are without a beginning and an end. Like any two waves our appearances keep on changing from moment to moment yet there is always a point in time when we just step aside on those sands share our solitude, to talk and to thank the ocean and the sands for letting us have a bit of them to be shared and cherished.
