Einstein always said that the ultimate goal of his life was to understand the mind of God. His great scientific discoveries did show how close he came to knowing it. Yet he failed to reconcile gravity with quantum physics in his quest for final theory of everything! If he had done so probably he would not have remained in human form and would have become God himself!
Once the basic needs of human beings are satisfied the human mind has the tendency and fascination of finding about God, infinity and the forces that have made this universe. This knowledge is generally called the Mind of God. Any understanding that we achieve in this regard is through our brain and mind. Hence to understand the mind of God it is firstly necessary to make our minds powerful enough to fathom it. Sometimes there are lucky few who are helped in this endeavor by a guru.
In Gita when lord Krishna wanted Arjun to see the infinite form and the birth of Universe, he gave Arjun a Divya Shakti or supernatural power to see and behold the form and understand the forces that produced the Universe. Thus Arjun’s mind transcended the realm of ordinary to extraordinary.
Similarly there have been many instances where the touch of a guru has given disciples extraordinary powers to see beyond the physical reality and get a glimpse of the mind of God. Vivekananda saw all physical objects melting and merging into infinity when Ramakrishna touched his chest. Similarly Swami Yogananda got a glimpse of different worlds through his master while some persons have claimed to have gone physically to other worlds through UFO abductions!
For ordinary people the best way to know the mind of God is to first make our minds powerful. Thus the relevance of Patanjali Yoga Sutras becomes important. This is the first and still the foremost book which tells us how to make the mind powerful enough to understand the infinite or the mind of God.
Patanjali’s central thesis is; Yoga is focus on a single thought for a very long time. This is also called Sanyam and gives power to a yogi to completely understand anything in the Universe on which he or she chooses to focus including the objects of any size from an atom to the Universe and also the basis of creation.
Understanding the mind of God is the greatest goal of any human being. When achieved it gives us a feeling of happiness and oneness with the Universe. This joy is said to be beyond any description.
