The Way to Peace

There is still a ray of hope for Kashmir. A sane element is giving a serious thought in restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

About this serious political hope in future was divulged none other than by Musadiq Hussain (code name), 45 former divisional commander of deadly militant outfit, who left his gun in 1997 and decided to be a political. Thus Jammu and Kashmir is expected to receive a political onslaught against regional political parties as well as separatist groups

In an exclusive interview to R C Ganjoo he said, first Kashmir needs peace and prosperity followed by India-Pakistan dialogue. In search of peace under the banner of Kashmir Democratic Alliance (KDA) in making, Hussain as its convenor (not agreed to give his pix) said rebel from militants outfits and separatist organisations under his influence wanted to get rid of disillusionments and conflicts political manipulation by political leaders shaped for their own ends. He is of firm conviction that roaring of gum in Kashmir would possibly be stopped, provided Government of India declares cease fire just for six months. He claimed, he himself and other activities in KDA is capable to prevail upon gun wielding boys to bring back the glory of Kashmir.

Nearly 70 gun toting youth in South are in touch with KDA, besides educated youth, intellectuals, religious leaders and people from civil society.

According to him, gun has played its role and the regional political parties with the support of national parties has never address Kashmir problem in right prospective for their own political gains. He said " KDA will through up a genuine representatives from all the three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, irrespective of religion, region or caste in democratic method to give befitting reply to political parties."

He said both regional parties National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have to be sidelined against whom public resentment is increasing day by day because of their involvement in endless corruption, lawlessness and nepotism .

Without fear or threat, Hussain was amply clear on his stand that APHC ( M) or APHC (G) could not go beyond strikes also demanded the progress report of NC and PDP achievements. He was confident that new faces with clean image and credentials would replace the ongoing political ambiguity.

When asked, was it his U turn from gun to politics, he truthfully said " leaving of gun was not be considered my surrender." Hussain crossed over to PoK in 1989 and received rigorous weaponry training along with 200 other youth for six months. He crossed over to Pok via Handwara and came back from Chamb-Jouria sector in Jammu and entered valley from Baramulla in seven days trek . He executed major attacks successfully in Kashmir on the direction of Pakistan. But watching the of people of Kashmir trapped between political and gun culture, thus facing miseries, his conscience woke up to hold bull by horns, he said.

About the unabated militants activities in South of Kashmir, he held Jammt-e-Islami responsible for it. The twin districts of South Kashmir Pulwama and Shopian have become hot bed militancy since the inception of PDP, he affirmed .

According to his information about 300 local militants are active in South of Kashmir and less in North. Around 50 foreign militants each are active in North and South of Kashmir.

He explicably described the awful current situation of Pakistan where terrorists have been sentenced to death by military court, whereas in India terrorist related cases are given justice in trial courts in a democratic system.

He candidly rejected the efforts of India bringing peace in Kashmir. Giving the reason of their failure, Hussain said conferences, visiting delegations, interlocutors, NGOs have never been able to reach genuine voice because they come with blinkers on their eyes. He blamed NDA government which is not well versed with the real situation of Kashmir. He said handpicked individuals and leaders from different communities having no locus standi are given preferences by centre or state governments.

Be that as it may, the KDA in offing in Jammu and Kashmir could change the political environment if a fear deal is offered to them . If this golden opportunity is not availed the same story of 1987 elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be repeated. It is on record that Congress unit headed by Mufi Mohd Sayeed and National Conference of Dr Farooq Abdullah in alliance rigged elections to confine Muslim United Front ( MUF) at four seats, who were contesting on 43 constituencies . As a result of that Mohd Yusaf Shah, contesting from Amira Kadal constituency declared as unsuccessful candidate against NC Candidate Mohiuddin Shah, turned Syed Salahuddin Shah, now chief of United Jihad Council operating from access the border.
