A doctor-friend of mine from Turkey and myself were under training in UK on a Commonwealth Medical Fellowship about five decades ago. We joined the "English Course for Overseas Doctors" at the British Council Centre, Portland Place, London.
Our teacher once wrote a word wrongly on the board, and I pointed it out to her. She impulsively exclaimed, "Doctor, you are my watchdog".
After the class my friend from Turkey was visibly upset, and
said, "Are you not angry? She called you a dog".
I replied, "No, I don't mind, that is English".
