The 'Big Ben' London

We visited the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, which was established in 1570. It Was the Quaternary year of the Foundry (1570 -1970). This Foundry manufactured the "Big Ben" the great bell of Westminster, on the 10th of April 1858.

It weighs around 13 tons.

This bell once cracked due to the impact of the heavy clapper. This crack was filled with metal, and the site was shifted to one of the "Silent Zones" of the bell.

The "silent area" is the area which vibrates the least.

This was done to avoid further damage to the "Big Ben". Thus, it functions till date.

We were taken round the bell foundry which speaks of its age. This visit happened during my stay in London for my training in Clinical Pharmacology, a branch of Medicine.
