The Bliss of Swinging Together

It’s a calm bank of Yamuna where the untouched landscape is serene with fragrant bushes, soft grasses and the bounteous herbs dispelling aromatic cadences around. It’s raining soft in the tranquility of Shravana. The dark jubilant waves in the Kalindi are flowing more energetically as ever as if their bosoms are filled with ever increasing gush of water. Though sailing with the rainy ambience, the waves want to slow down and have a glimpse of the lovely couple whose presence is invading the whole area.

On the other bank, there is an old temple, three-storeyed with a staircase leading to the uppermost dome built in Rajputana architecture. The temple doesn’t appear to be thronged by many devotees. Indeed, it is serene as if reserved for special sorties of the divine couple exclusive in the Nikunj. The uppermost dome with eight pillars joining eight petals of a lotus pattern presents a vast view of the river with a glance that is hazy only after a few kilometers. The place is lit up with some lamps and is majestically bright for the evening.

Suddenly a swing appears in the middle of the river with its ropes visible at the plank on one side and eternally long on the other as if suspended from some heavenly hold. Soon two forms emerge on the swing—Light blue and fair Lord Shiva on the left and a dusky beautiful Parvati on the right. They both enjoy the radiance of love on the companion’s faces. The swing is swaying gently for not disturbing their collective visit to the place they so dearly yearn perpetually for and frequent at times—a process that is ongoing since ages.

The raindrops patter everywhere. Some drench goddess Parvathi but her consort doesn’t let her wipe these away. She who is manifested in all earthly beauty must enjoy nature’s dance and music beautifully played in the surroundings. She is splashing the water beneath her feet in playful splashes reminding her husband of her presence beyond the austerities of his samadhi.

The divine couple pervades everywhere. You can see them atop the temple as Radha and her Sakhi. They are down here on the divine swing. And yet another form slowly manifests itself at some distance where waves have gone quiet. There is a blue boat with a peacock shaped front almost motionless on one side and inside the velvety green has a resting place for the couple. Radha is keeping her arms rested on the shoulder of Krishna who is playing his flute to lull all living forms to deep slumber and enjoy the eternal bliss with his heartthrob. The boat is dimly lit but glides like a swan over the waters which reflect the radiance back to the cosmos.

Oh how I wish to be a  petal of some flower and offer a little fragrance as incense for the young duo or be a little tinkling bell in the dome of the temple striking hard to play a soft tune for the pair!
