A video program in Youtube was about atomic bombs being used in the Mahabharata war. Two cities, Mohanjodaro and Harappa in western Sind , now a part of Pakistan, was seen to have craters and mounds among the ruins .The earth around the craters had glassy material .very much like the soil in the US nuclear tests in Mexico conduced by the USA in the 50s. There was a high radiation all around the test site. So the makers of the video, Americans probably, also concluded that in the twin cities of Mohanjodaro and Harrappa also must have been burnt down by a nuclear bomb -DUrING THE MAHABHARATA war. It should be pointed out here that the Mahabharata war took place in Kurukshetra-a city in the present day Haryana and east of the twin cities in Pakistan. Mahabharata war took place circa 7000 to 5000 years ago ,as per Indian calendar. It was towards the end of treta yuga. The war was between the Pandavas supported by Lord Sri Krishna and the Kauravas over the issue of handing over the kingdom to the Pandavas. The Kauravas ,with their father ,Drtarashta, were ruling the kingdom having acquired the same illegally. Wars in the puranas and the ithihasas-Ramayana and Mahabharata were fought with bows and arrows and other implements like the swords, maces(gada) . The battle was mostly one to one but also could be between entire troops on either side. The warriors were well versed in the warfare being good charioteers, swordsmen, and wrestlers . Mass destruction on either side was also present but the destruction was confined to the battle field located far away from cities so as to avoid destruction to life and property -unlike modern warfare killing civilians and damaging their properties. So the question of destruction of cities does not arise . Now ,what about the use of nuclear arsenals? As I said earlier, the wars in the epics and puranas were chiefly with what are known as the Asthras - usually arrows from a bow with the invocation of particular devatas like Agni(fire) , vayoo( torrents and typhoons) , serpents etc. So they are not merely simple physical implements but ones that invoked devatas. Even maces and clubs could be hurled at the enemy to at once kill or maim him. Instances of the use ofnanything readily available at hand like a blade of grass could be turned into an asthra.-Rama using a blade of grass against an asura(demon) in Ramayana . Some asthras can wipe out entire batallions like the Brhamastra. In this respect they were like the modern day ballistic missiles with and without nuclear war heads with the conspicuos absence of the infra structure required for remote warfare like the launch pads and the back office to carry out the firing program. Now returning to the video show, where are the remains of the launch pads and the back office? The back office should have the computers and the wireless devices to explode the "bomb". None of these were reported to have been found anywhere in the ruins in the twin cities! Surely in a historical site artifacts from the infra structure should also be present. in some form! A comic consequence of the claim is the equally strange possibility of the warring groups to have secured from a non existent USA instead of the devataas for the astras. Probably ,if it were a nuclear warfare the Pandavas and the Kauavas had to do a time travel to USA to negotiate the arms aid!! or the USA should ! Hence this rejonder that the Mahabharata war was fought entirely with bows and arrows and no nuclear arsenals.
