It is high time we Bengalis should stop tom-toming about Tagore's Nobel prize. Flaunting Tagore's Nobel prize does not make Bengalees noble, but actually it is the other way round. Tagore was an exceptional human being. But that is a different matter. But Bengalees make so much about Lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan also. Call it their large-heartedness or their bankruptcy, however you see it. Bengalles do not see any talent in their own people. They did not see any talent in Tagore too, before he got Nobel prize. They did not see much of a talent in Swami Vivekanand too, till he was revered by people of North, West and South India. So nothing great about Bengalees. Much of great names of Bengal are products English India. Nothing to be proud of my Bengalee brothers. Alas, what people made me believe in my adolescence, youth and a large part of my service life is proving to be a mirage. Even Jyoti Basu was indoctrined by Rajani Palme Dutt in England and he held a Bar-at-law from Englad. Bengalees, I beseech you to squirm and scrutinize yourself. Flaunting some reneisance names does not make you any greater. Think and change yourself. Otherwise, you will remain in history as marginal as you were during the Mahabharata times.
