Cleaning up of dirty religious places in India

The other day I saw some clippings of Shirdi where lakhs and lakhs of pilgrims visit. I was apalled by the filth and unhealthy atmosphere that the video clippings unravelled and the general apathy of the candidates from various parties who have stood in the elections in the region and intervewed by the television journalist. Will our Prime Minister's agenda of a clean India improve the situations? Gandhi died (killed) a sad man who faught for Indian independence. Our Prime Minister is a missionary person and has some definite objectives. He will surely achieve many because of his persona and training. But I doubt that people of India will ever be grateful to him. We Indians are icon worshippers. We are so adept in forgetting our responsibilities and putting the blame on others. However, if our current Prime Minister can manage to clean up all dirty religious places (example: Shirdi) in India by 2019, he would have achieved something.

Comment Oberoiji, I thank you, as you cared to respond. Things have come to such a pass in India that people should not visit many places, especially during celebrations for the unhygienic conditions and the shear number of visitors. Administrative authorities unfortunately do not apply their mind to set things right. In another two decades I shall not be around to see what I have seen in the few decades of my mature life. I hope there will be other Mother Teressas, Narendra Modis, Kailash Satyarthis and Malalas to at least try and put things on tracks from time to time. By the way, I like to hear about your work you just hinted. Please e-mail me at sharbaaniranjan@gmail.com

Comment We are pathetically dirty inside out. Nothing may change us. We have continued to pontificate over centuries but as far as hygiene and sanitation is concerned we are down right filthy. Do what you can or will we shall so remain-sadly so. Our PM is doing the best he can and we wish him success. I as an Indian citizen am doing my bit for some 6 decades and am proud of doing what I must. PM needs all the help he can get and we wish him the best. signed
