West Bengal Police under the rule of a political party today as well as other political parties earlier after B C Roy's Chief Ministership and a few others probably like Prafulla Ghosh, Profulla Sen, and Ajoy Mukherjee (I am not very sure) have never been unpartisan. From a police force that was comparable to Scotland Yard to today has reached nadir on accelarating downhill path. This therefore needs a constitutional remedy in the shape of a State Police Commission to which top police brasses should have to report. It should be constituted of the State Home Minister, leaders of all political parties in the state legislature, second highest judge of the high court of the state, Human Rights Commission Chairman, Chairman of the State Commission for Women, Seniormost IAS Officer in the State Secretariat from SC and ST communities, a representative from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and Jain communities. Any controversy in the enforcement of law should be under the supervision of State Police Commission.
