Out of The Mouths of Babes

In the class this evening….

Siddharth, a student of mine is just picking up Hindi, often he has doubts with letters, their English meanings too.

I asked him the meaning of ‘kathal’ (jackfruit in English).

“Auntie, you haven’t taught me this!’ he remarked.

Telling him I had, I turned over the pages of his note book and showed him the word under the topic ‘Phal” (meaning fruits)

Samvedhya, a sprightly child of Standard I was quick to remark-

‘Auntie, you have an elephant memory.’

In awe, I asked her how she knew about ‘memory like an elephant’, Pat came the reply “‘In the story of The Tailor and the Elephant.”

What memory!
