Three Astute Politicians

Apart from top brass politicans who saw through Indian indepedence like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Ballabhbhai Patel, and of course many others who it will be difficult to name as none can be taken as less than another, three politicians other than many who became Prime Ministers and held portfolios of Cabinet Ministers, in my opinion three persons stand out in independent India. One was Chief Minister of West Bengal for more than two decades, one is currently the President of India and one is the current Prime Minister of India. The three are from three different political spectral colour. One is red, one is of Indian tricolour and the last of saffron colour. But all of them are astute politicians, politicians per excellence. Of course, Jyoti Basu was not blemishless as far as political philosophy of his party is concerned. But given party philosophy, requirements of federal structure of our country and a tattered nature of the state of which he was Chief Ministyer because of the fallout of partition, the way he ran the show was just unparallel. I can sing paens in his favour and there are no dearth of people of course who will just tear down his poster picture. Because of him we could get so little out of Siddhartha Shankar Ray, another towering personality after Bidhan Chandra Ray. About our current President of India I will just say I have never seen a better trouble shooter in my life since I could test my judgement in worldly matters. And to speak about our current Prime Minister, we have a meticulous planner, a planner per excellence. I am confident he will fulfill his electoral promises almost hundred per cent the way he is approaching his tasks. These three persons teach me, though what one believes in is of great importance, it is also important how one approaches tasks and the sincerty with which they work for their convictions.
