I was awed to hear that they were together for 77 years. I've never known a couple to have such a long marriage.

Blessed with longevity, mutual understanding and compatibility, they had 77 years of conjugal companionship.

Jimmy Carter and his late wife Eleanor Rosalynn Carter, she recently died on 19th November at the age of 96.

Mr Carter said: "Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me."
