I just finished reading Mrs. Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna (wife of famous Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar). I am not writing a book review, though. But it is a must-read. I found it randomly on a book rack in my dentist’s clinic. Quite a few good collections were lying there, but somehow, my intuition made me pick Mrs. Funnybones. And I made a good choice. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book; it was my constant toilet companion! No offense intended, but this book made me forgo my mobile while in the loo! Why? Amusing and poignant, this book tickled my funny bones, and from thenceforth, this book became my constant companion there, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Ha ha ha :)
Now, what was so attractive in the book? As a wife and mother of two, I guess I could relate to the instances she shared, her experiences, and her day-to-day activities and observations in her house, apartment, gym, office, airport, or in-flight experiences. I was like, wow! I, too, have a similar experience. Thoughts like Oh! My God…my mother does the same, too (she does implicate me in intricate situations, lol!)
Do all mother-in-laws think the same? My kids are like this, too, and my husband is no less…oh! Such thoughts constantly linger in your mind. Her funny way of expressing her thoughts, timely wit, and punches were too excellent and original. Simply, this book captures the life of every woman in Indian households. Be it her worries about whether her house help will be able to return to work on time or her happiness when she gets a call from him, it is so palpable. The rapport she and her Mummy Ji share is so identifiable. Likewise, the relationship between her ‘prodigal son’ and herself truly reflects the relationship between a mother and a son, which I can relate to. As a wife, the ‘nok-jok’ between her husband and her is too good and honest.
Twinkle Khanna, the author of Mrs. Funnybones, is a total entertainer. She believes one should laugh until tears roll down their face, and I couldn’t agree more. Because whenever I laugh wholeheartedly, tears roll down my cheeks! I want to thank Twinkle Khanna for her originality and authenticity. Her book is a true reflection of life, and I'm grateful for the laughter it brought into mine. Namaste!
