Dhaka 2011 through the eyes of an Indian Bengali
The 1947 Bengal partition was traumatic, as was Punjab that bled India to ache her midnight achievement. Subsequent Blessing in disguise, the tactical error ‘Operation Searchlight’ led to the 1971 Free Bangladesh. Containing East Bengal it is Tropical delta merged by Padma and Brahamaputra, with hill tracts on the East. Ancient Bangladesh is entwined Indian History traceable into recent past.
Beyond headlines poverty, weather catastrophe, conflicts and charity… there is another side to Bangla Saga. Array of cultural legacy in literature, maths, science …of course more with an East, West Bengal combine.
Bengal fascinates not only Ethnic Bengalis spread across the globe but also the International for adequate multifarious motives. As for our visit, it was to trace the ancient roots of my father in law; he served in tea estates of Sylhet as a doctor. Before split India he migrated to Assam.
Recently I visited Dhaka with my spouse and am giving below my impressions via photographs.
