Movies and superheroes

Since I am bored to death and I can't go back home, I have been watching a couple of movies. I have found that all the superhero movies like Spiderman and our very own Shaktiman, Hrithik in Koi Mil Gaya have a similar story underlying the main plot. The only difference is in their costumes and powers.

The story almost always starts with a young boy who lives in a small appartment with a despicable job. But the lad has high spirits, thoughts and deeds. There is also always a deep crush on a lady residing in their hearts. I believe this initial part of the movie helps a comman man, the viewers to connect with the story. The plot if seen on a broad basis is of an ordinary person achieving extraordinary feats. And also the superhero comes out only when needed. The ordinary person always remains, which keeps the viewer glued to the screen.

I think the story plays on the psyche of a common man. We all want to be able to be that person, to be that big person who can save the world, in some cases achieve what we want, be famous and at the same time stay firmly glued to the ground. Its interesting to observe that almost all superhero movies and their sequels have been bigs hits. The only reason I can see is that all of us want to be that person or have wished to have a superhero life when we were kids.

I still remember my brother always wanting to be like Akshay Kumar after watching the movie Khiladi because Akshay could jump from wherever he wanted, and save people's lives etc. Whenever we would go for a ride on a giant wheel, at the highest point, he would tell me I want to jump like Akshay. I remember being scared and holding his hand tightly less he should jump!
