India’s current national pledge, which was highly meaningful once, is as follows:-
India is my country. All Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country. I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders, respect, and treat everyone with courtesy. To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.
Scourges of religious fundamentalism, terrorism, communalism, “minoritism”, pseudo-secularism, corruption, nepotism and family rule have made sixty years of our self-rule meaningless.
It is time to change the pledge and the New Indian National Pledge (NINP) looks more suitable:-
India is my nation. All Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my nation. I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
As a human being, my nation comes first. My faith and religion comes next.
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders, respect, and treat everyone with courtesy. To my nation and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness
