Talk of global warming and climate change
cannot diminish the appreciation of fine weather.
The bogies of science are out of focus here:
sun, sky and grass, sand and sea, spontaneous
in attraction, undiminished as a consequence.
It feels like living for the moment; a child leads
with its spontaneous handling of the occasion,
the child in us: the colours are character, of grass,
of sand, of lake and sea, of sunlight, these are
the elements of joy no science has taught us.
Science aspires to safeguard the appearances
of the elements of joy, of grass, of water,
of wildlife, of health and welfare, security,
the quality of food and drinks, pharmaceuticals;
and in the longer term, the global climate.
The elements of joy are of the moment,
spontaneity of expression, the leap and cry
of freedom, passion, ecstasy; even science
at the moment of discovery; in short,
the reason in the moment to live for. |
