Theme: Politics

The Iron Lady

I saw the film last night..this is my take
********************************************

Meryl Streep deserved the Oscar,
For her role as Margaret Thatcher.
She played it to true perfection,
About that there is no question.
Clever insights she provided,
As to how Margaret was chided.

Fickle-minded politicos,
And lily livered* weirdos,
Would aptly her cabinet describe.
Courage was unknown in the tribe.
Although, I am no hard-liner
It was tough for Mrs Thatcher.

The first Western woman to break
The Glass ceiling, had risks to take.
Whether driven by ambition,
Or for the good of the nation,
She took her role seriously,
Though history will judge her harshly.

* Please excuse the cliche... I used it for want of a more appropriate description!

Comment David Cameron simply takes up where Mrs T left off, and from where the Labour Government under successive leaders always slips back into - the so-called 'nanny state'. Mrs T always described herself as a good housekeeper, cutting waste, and getting people to stand on their own feet and not become inured to a culture of government hand-outs. This is precisely Cameron's policy.
