What is it about lights at night that point
their shining in the future's own direction!
Perspective thrills to carry the selection
forward; time’s arrow cannot disappoint
the eye, nor it deceive; but to appoint
sheer fixity of promise: an election
of universal import; divine perfection
that diamonds recognise, whereto each joint
makes genuflection. Out of the darkness
came forth the light, the primal work of God,
never to look back, but forward to press,
as though to some foregone conclusion lit,
beyond its own scope, to the infinite:
God's Word whose light light is created likeness. |
