There was a time when Christ preached his sermons
and worked his miracles
but now they call that one man’s view
and miracles prove only that point of view
when so many religions have sprouted anew.
There was a time when St Paul preached his sermons
to put on the armour of Christ
and in doing so conquer sin
which many tried and many failed in
and the church was shattered in pieces within.
There was a time when churches preached their sermons
the schismatic and the reformed
congregations drew and hymns were sung
somehow none of them was wrong
but non-Christian beliefs took the cue and grew strong.
There was a time when Christ was preached in sermons
to the unbelieving and the outcast
that is no longer done except at peril
of being termed elitist or a fundamental
intolerant bigot, a kind of devil.
There was a time when Christ preached his sermons
and the word ‘Christ’ was never used
but God introduced as a loving father
and all who loved God as sons and brothers
and God’s Spirit the power that binds them together
in love. There was a time. Now is that time. |
