Theme: Smile

You Made My Day, Darling

Oh, darling, your smile made my day.
In thirty years of my office career
I never got a smile like this from you.

Has your heart undergone a sea change
in relation to me? How? Why?
You did not call me in your daughter's marriage
while you called my juniors and colleagues.

I was hurt but understood
there must be some deep-seated reason.
So I tried to ignore and forget.
Meanwhile, I installed you
as a Divisional Head.

You have never been much friendly,
though I admired you.
Over the years I had learnt
other than my eyes, my friendly bearing
I did not have much to turn on a woman.

Then, I became less ambitious
and resigned to my intrinsic worth.
Selling oneself is making one cheaper.
Better to be unavailable
and keep shrouded one's mysterious worth.

But you darling, you made my day today.
What had floated up in your mind
I do not know. But, surely,
you made my day with your exceptional smile.

This, therefore, will be a very meaningful day
in my life. I thank you for that. Amen.
