The London Marathon draws them all out,
the would be finishers, a bit like how
we face everyday life; it’s all about
endurance and fitness - you must allow.
But unlike the race, there are no clear winners,
or say, an inversion makes of us all
equal competitors, and no beginners
in life’s course that lifts us, to run or fall.
The Marathon gives headlines fame to few,
the most stream over the line with less clamour,
private heroes, nonetheless, honour due;
in life, the famous; the rest have less glamour.
But it is to whom the prize is awarded
in life, makes snail leap ahead of the hare:
it's for things hidden that we are rewarded
when crossing the finishing line out there.
