There was a restlessness in me
all through my youth and even later.
Some of it was just natural,
but a large portion of it was
due to my conditions in life
and some lasses who allured.
But mirages are not to be chased.
Through twists and turns in fortunes
and due to Herculean efforts
I have been able to shed off
much of my restlessness.
I do not deviate much in life today.
Occasionally, some drop in.
I greet them, enquire about
their stations in life.
Tell me, I say,
how can I be of use to you?
I comply, if I can;
or express regret.
I am a man of limited means,
one of very little talent, I say.
So many people have kept me alive,
I philosophise.
See you dear, be happy,
is my usual refrain.
