On Being a Mother

I sent a reminder
to one of the Boloji writers
inquiring welfare, and
"Why no new posts?"

Came the reply
her one year old
keeping her on toes

Having known the writer
for six years or close
her writing style
the subjects she chose
A film ran through
my mind
that started to narrate

        wedlock
        union
        the rhythm
        the cosmic dance
        pregnancy
        glowing radiance
        labor
        the earnest prayers
        with every heartbeat
        entreating
        life to live

        and finally
        the birth
        of the most wanted child
        a beautiful daughter
        Nirvana realized
        in the life's naissance

I rejoice and pray
that may the mother
nurse her daughter
and provide the best;
passing with flying colors
the parenting test!

Comment A beautiful and touching poem. It is a pleasure to experience a blessed and graceful nostalgia in remembering one's mother.
The loving care she took of us at all times has no parallel.

Comment Thats what I tell people,
when they ask me where are you?
Revisiting motherhood
With mix of pink and blue...

When my little bundle of joy,
gives a smile and look at me
All the pain of living on toes
run to change in heartfelt glee..

She keeps me tangled in a thing or two
But makes sure she hugs and kisses me a lot
On being a mother, i felt all through the same
what you wrote above, is akin to what i thought..

Comment It left me reflecting if there is anything tenderer than the soul of a mother. The expression of thought and emotion is an unexcelled epitome of womanhood in motherhood! Thanx for sharing, dear Rajinderji.

Comment Motherhood is holy and each expression about its glory is a poem indeed. I could not help closing my eyes growing wet when I came to the line "the most wanted child" when it is a girl. When will the day come when all of us would welcome the birth of a child, girl or boy! Your poem is a silent lesson indeed.

Comment Whatever is said about the glory of motherhood, in reality it is a thankless job. Fortunate are those who can manage to nourish their personal interests along with the duties of motherhood.

Comment Superb Sir! As a feminist tho' I am given to the idea that we make too much of motherhood.

But when I read a poem like this it reminds me, but for my mother I would not have been here to appreciate the poem!!

Comment This was a beautiful poem on 'Being a Mother' but what appealed more was an experimental approach in composing and a wonderful selection of words giving a vivid pen-sketch.

Comment What a beautiful poem.

Parenting is an awesome responsibility. When done well it is the ultimate bliss.
I am reminded of a verse from our scriptures; The essence of it is as follows:
"If you want to experience God, become a parent. That is the closest you will ever get in shaping someone else's destiny who puts complete and unconditional trust in you".

Comment Two subjects in life
Hard to understand
Easy to experience
Unending to express

The invisible protection of the almighty
The unconditional love of the mother
Incidentally for both we happen to be
Children who are always near and dear

And in your whole narration you have beautifully embedded the creative excellence of the almighty and the tenderness of motherhood....
