They call it the Arab fall, in the air
tumult, a beloved prophet besmirched
by slander, a people driven to despair
turning against America, and lurched
into upheaval, riot, to strike there
a balance, seizing the world centre-stage
as if there to be resolved, the same where
violence, suicide, had proved the age
of jihad, al-Qaida, Islamic terror
so branded, war-ridden Islamic states;
in most regimes, a tyrannical ruler,
Islam to exploit with his own dictates
that forced the Arab Spring, eventually;
first, the efforts of NATO to restore
fairness, invasion to liberate, only
seen as greed for oil, action to deplore;
so they left it to the Muslim people
to resolve, Muslim killing Muslim, nothing
changed, merely focused; yet, ironical
in the world’s eyes; in wider understanding
that sought a cause, would see it in the prophet,
peace be upon him, in hideous parody:
first the cartoon, then the film, makes of it
his legacy of Muslim identity.
