Theme: Ethics

Disrobing

Powerful people once,
age has made them so fragile.
Their seat of power
was so formidible.
They, septuagenerian, octogenerian, nonagenarian all,
were being robed in honour of their past services,
but could not but be mute spectators of a show,
mastered by one, a couple of decades junior.

A pathetic scene of human condition,
of human helplessness unfolded
Superannuation should lead to hermitage.

Bygones should be bygones.
Let old stalwarts bask in their former glory in peace.
Robing only disrobes
a dignified existence.

Comment The seventh line should be:

but could not but be mute spectators of a show,
