Surrounded
by shacks of Mdantsane, SA
that scream of trauma
arising from
poverty
decadence of life
horrific deaths
adult and pediatric rapes
that recur daily
where
the Sun
ascends
hopelessly
and sets
like a mere speck

the Orthopedic Surgeon*
looks to the skies
in search of
hope and strength
from the infinity
of the Void

so that
he may be able to
succor their pain
heal their agony
with the same
love and compassion
that he has retained
for
garara, sharara
jingles, payals
havelis, forts
and the echoing whispers
of Gwalior
