I was sad to see the idols of
Goddess Durga immersed
In a highway canal
Floating like corpses
With stray ribs of straw.
Still sadder
To witness amidst stingy crowd
A baby with placenta,
White and soft in flesh,
Held in the bed of straws
Rippling and quavering
like a live babe
When earthly mother failed
Alas!
The divine mother stretched her laps
in vain
amidst weeds and worms
We can kill a little goddess of flesh
Like a goddess of clay
And smartly pray for another life:
This time not a girl child,
My God!
As if god stood by such killers.
(written after seeing a newly born girl child dumped in a roadside canal at my home town.)
Hope this message will reach to those ruthless people who are doing such nonsense activities. A girl should be born to live a beautiful life not to be killed.
