Life is Cheap

Gasping for breath
she walked out
of the smoky house
wondering
who wished to be
rid of her.

Should she have left
or stayed and
suffocated
until death
grabbed her to keep
them happy.

The true answer
she'll never
be able to
figure out
they made quite sure
about that

Aged just sixteen
out of school
a bright future
was forecast
the smartest girl
in her class

Why would they want
to be rid
of their daughter
the question
crossed her young mind
one that will

Perhaps Remain
