The Road to Nowhere

Troubled with life,
Aching with strife;
My legs led me there –
The road to nowhere.

It stretched before me,
A black thread, endlessly,
Leading to there –
The road to nowhere.

The birds on the way
Sang the lifelong day;
Telling all, “Look, Care!
It’s the road to nowhere.”

Trees, their boughs bent,
With the fruits they lent,
Living, lifeless, that were,
On the road to nowhere.

The tiller on the farm,
Full of twigs in his arm,
Said, “You go where?
It’s the road to nowhere.”

The highland lass echoed
The song of the road,
“Don’t stand, look and stare –
On the road to nowhere."
