A Coin

They call you two faced;
I call you Verity.
For ages past you have witnessed truth;
Held the hand of time from your distant youth.

You were there when Alexander fell
And eternal Rome turned to dust;
When Napoleon marched through Europe
And Hitler sated his bloodlust.

A passenger on Titanic;
You heard their desperate cries.
And you watched without emotion
As fifteen hundred people died.

You have trod the path of history.
You're a boon to the common man.
You have served us with distinction
In your lengthy, silent span.
