Inhuman Act

Captive over months
and unfed many a day,
if a lion, known to be wild,
when let loose to feast on human flesh,
could recognize hapless Androcles
in an open arena in front of the king
and thousand onlookers
as a friend and not as an appetizer,
can’t man who pounces upon a helpless woman
for a moment think her
to be a sister or a mother?

How can he, for he is modern,
and the teachings of this ancient nation
to treat other’s money as mere clay,
and another woman as mother are long forgotten
and outdated in the days of disco, jeans,
pizza, fast food, drugs and muscle?

The men and women in power
have tossed the ethics into thin air,
and want more and more money.
No concern they have for values and morals,
long discarded as middle class mindset
irrelevant in this modern time.

Will the nationwide uprising make any dent
and turn the generation a bit more decent?
Should we not ‘look before and after’
to choose the songs to us that are sweeter!

Comment Thank you, Rupradha. What a deplorable situation; woman is so tender, so weak, and yet graceful, how can one be so rude and cruel to her. Absolutely inhuman.
