Young Delhiwalah, I Am Proud of You

Thank God,
Delhi has erupted.
First it was corruption;
and now it is gang-rape.

The younger generation is no longer ready to tolerate
things we accepted as matter of course,
helpless,
thinking, nothing will change in this country.

Hounourable, honest people are taken as fools
to be trampled over
in the run up to power and money.

Women are just footwears for the victory-lap
as many a Delhiite never tires, repeating!

For once, I am a proud Delhiwallah,
at least for the public school groomed students,
much maligned,
who many say are not patriotic enough
and look for multinational jobs.

What is wrong serving the whole world,
if they harbour human values all right?

Are we not surviving on World Bank money
and technologies that are foreign?

Let us be true to the adage:
Basudhaiba Kutumbakam,
meaning the whole world is our kin.

For once, Delhiwallah, I am proud of you,
especially, the younger generation,
much maligned.
