To think I used to view that every sunny day
it takes my breath away
over fifty miles away
it is now several thousand
but it seems like only yesterday
today
I am standing there
my schoolboy face reflected back
the great wonder I experience
reduced to the quotidian
so much was it the backdrop to our lives
as boys
we rode its mighty back bareback
with easy grace
or wore its bracelet
in our souls in the bright blue day
the heaving hills beneath
touching our feet
O Kanchenjunga!
How many the tourist sighs
reach not your granite heart
beat as one with mine
your crumpled robes
soft and gentle
