Every time one steps out into the street,
one sees the settled version of events
in person and place, all paths have arrived at;
there is little to be said, or is gossip;
the present time fulfils all expectation;
newspapers dry up, and are left on seats;
fingers on touch screens, yet in the straight gaze
are in the throes of settling down, when closed.
I have seen crowds of people in the park,
each one settling down to the wide depiction;
trees and lake harbour their expected set
of feather and fur that prioritise;
the beds of flowers, magnificent chords
crescendo and diminuendo of
a settled theme; all makes up life in there
and then, in here and now, the settling down.
