Theme: Nostalgia

The Flying Trapeze

Whenever circus came to our little town,
I would visit it, dressed in my best gown.
The circus would be on for a month or so
And there was hardly anyone not to it go.

For me, flying trapeze acts were beyond compare
'Cos they seemed like poetry in motion in mid air.
As the board, swing and bar functioned in great harmony,
The trapeze flyers and catchers moved in total synchrony.

The flying trapeze manoeuvres designed to thrill,
Required tremendous discipline, control and skill.
Mutual trust was the core of the flying trapeze,
That enabled the artistes to move like a breeze.

Trapeze acts were part of a circus show,
That has now faded out and taken a bow.
Children are now glued to their play stations,
With games that cater to different emotions.

So, who would care about any poetry in motion,
When all the thrills are provided by a play station?
