Where Shelley Dies Young Again

Louis Kasatkin
Poet from
Wakefield
Fasts for a decent job;
More than 10 days
Have passed,
Yet,
No jobs
Or offers of jobs;
Latest austerity measures
Of the nation:
Starve the poets
And indulge the corrupt
And the crass;
Let them flourish---
Business and
The shameless political class,
The rich eat excessively
And become obscenely fat;
Welcome to the Great Britain,
Hey merry folks,
The modern version
Of the Plato’s Republic;
Where middle-class
And poets
Harbingers of change
Are driven against the wall;
21-year-old,
Unemployed
Vicky Harrison
Makes 200 applications
But does not get a good job,
Humiliated, frustrated,
Miss Bright dies
After a drug overdose,
And where talented poets
Have to go on
Hunger protest for jobs!
Irony of the situation
Is not entirely lost---
Crooks survive,
The young tend to commit suicide,
Poets of no use,
Well,
A generation is truly lost!
