When all the news is added up, the sum
cannot exceed ‘what is’, and that is what
the news is all about, its lurid flames
burn down to; something one can do without.
Since ‘what is’ is unchanged, the news amounts
to sameness and irrelevance, for all
its wide diversity in print and image,
‘what is’ is what it aspires to, never
affects; while ‘what is’ remains, its domain
is reality, elusive; the news
is superficial by comparison,
but vastly compelling for ‘what is’
in print or image matched in everything,
identity; the news is mimicry;
when all is said and done, the news does nothing;
‘what is’ lifts the world to futurity.
