Theme: Life

Life

Why do I breathe
the life, that's mine.
While I move, I wonder,
brood and mull and ponder,
over the quest for purpose,
on the purpose of quest.

Haven't forgotten there are duties.
Tasks which define action
works that need worship
the "krutya", "kartavya", "karmaneeya".

But I must wait, just
for a fleeting second
for I need rest, respite
The need to stand apart
from the motley crowd around
and watch them, watch me
dissociated, from a distance
as we move unblinking, oblivious to direction.
As we herd together and rush
and jostle at frightening pace.

Each one a part of the whole
connected, conjoined, intertwined
in an illusion of freedom ..
in a fettered freedom, me too.

A crucible of questions, somehow
find myself wallowing in.
Stirred to the core,
yet there's an identity ..
cherished, I long to seek.
Unworldly and yet
so rooted in the human.

Immune to the evil,
to all things vile
unblemished, it glitters
untainted, it shines
unruffled, it's calm
untouched, it's virgin ..
the purest thing there is.

I've kept it away
from the contagion in this life,
tucked safely deep inside,
in the hollow of my heart.
For it fills me up, with hope
like a fresh breath of air.
Surviving on it's own
for it's own sake and mine
to keep me the human I am,
than the ghost I'd otherwise be.

It's my innocence, forever young,
that is my wont to treasure.
The pure joy of creation alone
that I live to live for.
